The Facts...

Environmental Hazards of
      Single-Use Diapers:

18 billion single-use diapers are thrown in landfills
each year, taking as many as 500 years to
decompose!

Disposable diapers make up the 3rd largest source
of solid waste in landfills, after newspapers and
food and beverage containers--a significant fact,
considering they are a single product, used by a
limited portion of the population!

It takes upwards of 82,000 tons of plastic and 1.3
million tons of wood pulp, or a quarter-million trees,
to manufacture the disposable diapers that cover
the bottoms of 90 percent of the babies born in the
US!

Health/Developmental Hazards of
                   Single-Use Diapers:

Super-absorbent diapers contain sodium
polyacrylate. This is the same substance that was
removed from tampons in 1985 because of its link
to toxic shock syndrome!   (No studies have been
done on the long-term effects of this chemical being
in contact with a baby's reproductive organs 24
hours a day for upwards of two years.)

"Dry" does not mean "Clean"

Dioxin has been discovered in single-use diapers,
which has been shown to cause cancer, liver
damage, skin diseases, and birth defects.

Studies are now linking single-use diapers to
Asthma, because of their chemical emissions

Increased Scrotal Temperature in single-use
diapers may lead to male infertility

Economic Highlights:

Whether using cloth or single-use diapers, a baby
should be immediatly changed after it wets or soils
a diaper.  Therefore, on average a baby should be
changed about 70-80 times per week.

At 75 diapers per week, the comparison is:
      Cloth with Service = $17/week
       Single-use diapers = $35/week
Almost a $2,000.00 savings in just 2 years!

Convenience & Practicality:

No Pins Necessary!

No Rinsing!

No Washing

Babies wearing cloth diapers are toilet trained at 24-
30 months on average, while the average age for
babies wearing single-use diapers is 36-42 months
-- An entire year earlier!!!

Diaper Rash is very rare with the use of cloth
diapers!
